Morupule Coal Mine hosts Palapye Technical College Students for Industrial Exposure Tour
Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) this week welcomed students and lecturers from Palapye Technical College (PATECO) for an educational tour aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world industrial practice.
A total of 36 students specialising in Welding, Fabrication, and Maintenance Fitting, accompanied by nine teachers participated in the visit, which focused on gaining practical exposure and understanding workplace safety and environmental regulations.
The tour underscored MCM’s ongoing commitment to empowering young people through education and skills development additionally it emphasised MCM’s meaningful partnerships with educational institutions as they are vital to nurturing a skilled workforce capable of sustaining Botswana’s industrial growth. During the induction which sought to reinforce the mine’s message that productivity and safety must go hand in hand in all operational environments. MCM SHE Officer, Joseph Thokweng highlighted that; “We recognise the importance of nurturing a zero-harm environment while developing the next generation of industry professionals.”
The students were given a guided tour of the surface workshop by Maintenance Coordinator, Engineering Seagiso Tito. They also visited the plant led by Plant Foreman Beneficiation, Nonofo Galeeme who explained the key processes involved in coal handling and production efficiency.
PATECO’s Student Representative Council President, Amos Seemo, expressed gratitude to MCM for the opportunity. “This visit has been eye-opening. We’ve seen how the theories we study are applied in a real industrial setting,” he said. “We are grateful to MCM for exposing us to such practical knowledge, which will undoubtedly influence our future careers.”
