MR. PATRICK

MR. PATRICK BOITUMELO

Board Chairman

Patrick Boitumelo has been appointed as Morupule Coal Mine Board Chairman. He is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in the global mining and metals industry. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mineral Process Engineering from the University of Leeds and a Master’s in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, equipping him with a strong foundation in both technical expertise and strategic business management.

 

Mr. Boitumelo is based in Toronto, Canada, and brings decades of leadership and operational experience to his role. In addition to his selection as MCM Board chairman, he is also the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Brazilian Nickel, a company focused on developing sustainable nickel production. His leadership is shaping the company’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and long-term growth initiatives.

 

Mr. Boitumelo’s diverse experience across exploration, technology, project management, and executive leadership makes him a highly respected figure in the industry. His ability to blend technical knowledge with strategic vision has earned him recognition as a leader capable of steering organisations through complex challenges and dynamic market environments.

 

With a global career that has seen him lead operations and projects across several continents, Mr. Boitumelo is well-positioned to contribute to the continued success and governance of the organisations he leads.

MS. MBOKO

MS. MBOKO MODIE

Board Member

Mboko Onkarabile Modie is a distinguished business executive and transformational leader with expertise in Corporate Governance, Risk Management, Project Management, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Project Delivery. She holds a Master of Science in Project Management from the University of Sunderland and a Bachelor of Business Information Systems from the University of Botswana. Additionally, she has completed the prestigious Global Executive Development Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, enhancing her leadership capabilities.

 

Ms. Mboko has held strategic roles across large parastatal organisations and financial institutions, where she has driven key strategic initiatives. At First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), she led the creation of the Product Management Committee, implementing a comprehensive risk management framework for product lifecycle management. Her work ensured regulatory compliance and introduced best practices in governance, positioning FNBB for sustained success in the marketplace.

 

In her current position as Chief Executive Assistant to the Commissioner General of BURS, Ms. Mboko provides strategic leadership and oversees major initiatives aimed at organisational transformation. She has led projects in organisational realignment, system audits, and customer-centric transformations, driving operational improvements and enhanced service delivery. Her previous role as General Manager of Human Resource Information Management and Modernisation at BURS showcases her expertise in HR systems and modernisation.

 

Throughout her career, Ms. Mboko has demonstrated a unique blend of strategic vision, ethical integrity, and a passion for fostering innovation. Her leadership style emphasises continuous improvement, change management, and diversity and inclusion, making her a trusted advisor and forward-thinking leader. Her extensive experience and commitment to excellence make her an invaluable asset to the Morupule Coal Mine Board and any organisation she serves.

 

MR. JOHANNES

MR. JOHANNES MOTSHEGARE

Board Member

Johannes Motshegare is a highly accomplished Human Resources (HR) leader with over 25 years of extensive experience spanning government, parastatals, and the private sector. Throughout his distinguished career, he has consistently demonstrated the ability to drive impactful HR strategies, spearhead large-scale organisational transformations and implement effective talent management initiatives for some of Botswana’s most prominent organisations.

 

Currently, he serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Allaboard Botswana Pty Ltd (Partnership with International Talent Management Academy - ITMA). He is also Director at Allaboard Africa, a leading Pan-African consulting partner in strategy development, business enablement, institutional transformation and talent management.

 

Johannes Motshegare holds a wide range of professional qualifications that underpin his expertise in human resources and organisational development. He is a Certified Talent Practitioner (CTP™) and a Chartered Organisational Development Practitioner (CODP™). He completed his Program for Management Development (PMD) at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, RSA, and pursued further executive education in HR Strategy for Transforming Organisations at the prestigious London Business School. Academically, Mr. Motshegare holds a Master’s degree in Manpower Planning from the University of Westminster, London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Botswana. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Human Resource Development from Vaal University of Technology in South Africa. As a certified trainer in CTP, CODP, and 3D Mentorship, he is also qualified in the Development Dimensions International (DDI) Facilitation Course, demonstrating his extensive commitment to professional development and organisational excellence.

 

With a solid foundation in human resources and a commitment to driving high-performance cultures, Mr. Motshegare continues to influence Botswana's business landscape through his innovative HR strategies and leadership excellence.

DR. BONNY

DR. BONNY MATSHEDISO

Board Member

Dr. Bonny Ignatius Matshediso is a seasoned Mining Engineer with extensive academic, industry, and government experience. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in Mining Engineering and Acting Director of the Centre for Mining and Mineral Beneficiation at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). Over his distinguished career, Dr. Matshediso has become known for his contributions to mineral economics, mining legislation and mineral policies, mining education and strategic leadership within Botswana’s mining sector.

 

Previously, Dr. Matshediso held the position of Head of the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering at BIUST, where he led the department’s academic and research initiatives. Before joining BIUST, he was a Senior Lecturer in Mining Engineering at both the University of Botswana (UB) and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Matshediso also held the position of Head of Civil Engineering and Head of the Mining Section at the University of Botswana.

 

Dr. Matshediso’s qualifications span multiple prestigious institutions worldwide. He holds a PhD in Mining Engineering (Mineral Economics) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as a Diploma of Imperial College (DIC) in Mineral Production Management from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London and a Master of Science from the University of London. His academic journey also includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mining Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, and a Mining Technician and Technology Certificate from Haileybury School of Mines in Ontario, Canada.

 

 

Dr. Matshediso’s boardroom experience is equally extensive. He has served on the Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) Board for eighteen (18) years, four (4) of which he was at the helm of the MCM Board of Directors. His leadership has provided stability and direction during critical phases of the mine’s development. Additionally, Dr. Matshediso has served as a Board Member of the former Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC), contributing to strategic initiatives that align technology and industry growth.

 

With a blend of academic expertise, industry experience, and public service, Dr. Matshediso is a highly respected figure in Botswana’s mining sector. His deep understanding of mineral economics, mining operations, and policy frameworks makes him an invaluable asset to the Morupule Coal Mine Board.

MR. JOHANNES

MR. JOHANNES TSIMAKO

Board Member

Mr. Johannes Tsimako is an experienced leader in Botswana's mineral exploration and development sector, with over 32 years of expertise spanning both public and private sectors. He holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Botswana and an MSc in Mineral Exploration from ITC, Delft, The Netherlands.

 

Currently, Mr. Tsimako serves as Deputy Permanent Secretary - Transport and Logistics at the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (since August 2023). Previously, he held the role of Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Minerals and Energy from June 2021 to July 2023, providing strategic oversight in energy and mineral policy development.

 

Mr. Tsimako has held key leadership roles in industry bodies, including serving as Chairman of the Botswana Chamber of Mines (Nov. 2020 – June 2021) and Vice Chairman (Nov. 2017 – Nov. 2020). His career began with Rio Tinto Botswana (Pty) Ltd, where he gained invaluable experience in base metals and diamond exploration.

 

Known for his strategic vision, technical expertise, and results-driven leadership, Mr. Tsimako aspires to develop and implement world-class mining projects that are safe, sustainable, and profitable. His career reflects a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and delivering impactful solutions for Botswana’s mineral industry.

The Board meets at least three times a year. The Board has three Committees being;
