MCM celebrates Botswana's 60 years of independence
Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) joined the nation in celebrating 60 years of independence during the CEO’s Independence Message Stand-Down on 29 September 2026.
CEO, Edwin Elias reflected on MCM’s 53-year contribution to Botswana’s development through employment, economic growth, citizen empowerment and community investments in healthcare, education and social welfare.
“For 53 of those 60 years, Morupule Coal Mine has been part of Botswana’s journey.”
The celebration also gave employees of all ages an opportunity to share what 60 years of independence means to them, reflecting on the country’s achievements, unity and aspirations for the future.
Looking ahead, Elias called on employees to remain committed to safety, productivity and responsible resource management.
“We have a responsibility to protect what has been built before us and to improve it for those who come after us.”
As Botswana enters its next chapter, MCM remains committed to creating lasting value for its people, communities and the nation.
Happy 60th Independence Anniversary, Botswana!
