MCM celebrates Long Service, Excellece and Leadership at 2025 Recognition Awards
Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) hosted its Long Service and Recognition Awards Ceremony on Friday, 12 December 2025, honouring employees and retirees whose dedication, loyalty, and commitment have contributed to the organisation’s success over the years. Held under the theme “πΎππ‘πππ§ππ©ππ£π π©ππ ππ€π¬ππ§ π€π ππͺπ§ πππ€π₯π‘π ππ£π π©ππ ππ₯ππ§ππ© π€π πππππ‘π‘ππ£ππ" eleborating the Power of Our People and the Spirit of Excellence,” the event brought together employees, retirees, leadership, MCM Board Members, dignitaries, and key stakeholders.
In his welcome remarks, MCM Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Edwin Elias, expressed appreciation to employees for their unwavering commitment and contribution to the mine’s performance and sustainability. He highlighted the importance of recognising long service, excellence, and leadership, noting that MCM’s success is driven by its people and a strong culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
The ceremony recognised 110 long-service employees for milestones ranging from 10 to 35 years, representing a combined 1,430 years of service. Retirees were also honoured for the lasting legacy they leave behind. In addition, 28 employees received Excellence Awards after successfully completing leadership and development programmes, underscoring MCM’s continued investment in developing future leaders.
The Speaker of the National Assembly and Guest of Honour, Honourable Dithapelo Keorapetse, commended MCM’s contribution to Botswana’s development and energy security. He praised the organisation’s strong leadership culture, values-driven governance, and the commitment demonstrated by long-serving employees, noting that long service reflects both employee dedication and effective leadership.
The programme was further enriched by a motivational address from Mr. Kago Keotshwaetse, who delivered an inspiring message on financial discipline, responsible money management, and long-term financial planning, encouraging employees to make informed decisions that support long-term financial stability.
In closing remarks, MCM leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to employees, emphasising that the organisation’s success is not defined by coal production and infrastructure alone, but by the dedication, integrity, and resilience of its people. Long-service employees were acknowledged for laying the foundation upon which the organisation continues to build, while Excellence Award recipients were praised for inspiring a culture where excellence is the standard.
Looking ahead to 2026, MCM reaffirmed its commitment to investing in its people, strengthening leadership capability, embracing digital transformation, and deepening employee engagement across the mine. The importance of every role across operations, offices, and support services was highlighted, recognising the collective contribution employees make to powering the nation and supporting surrounding communities.
The evening concluded with appreciation extended to the organising committee, partners, leadership, and all who contributed to the success of the event. Guests were encouraged to carry forward the spirit of unity, pride, and excellence demonstrated throughout the ceremony, as Morupule Coal Mine continues to build a stronger, more inclusive future anchored in the power of its people.
