MCM sponsors top BIUST students, offers graduate trainee opportunities

Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) has awarded P15,000 each to the best-performing Engineering students at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), while offering the deserving graduates an opportunity to join its 24-month Graduate Trainee Programme.

The initiative forms part of MCM’s commitment to developing Botswana’s future technical capability and strengthening the pipeline of skilled professionals in the mining industry.

The awards were presented by MCM Head of Human Resources Ronald Kgafela to Theo Michael and Mogakodi Boitshoko during BIUST’s 11th Graduation Ceremony.

Through the 24-month Graduate Trainee Programme, the graduates will have an opportunity to translate their academic knowledge into practical experience in a mining environment. The programme includes workplace exposure, structured development, mentorship and interaction with experienced professionals to strengthen their technical competence and understanding of the mining industry.

MCM CEO Edwin Elias and Kgafela represented the mine at the ceremony, which was addressed by President Duma Gideon Boko.

President Boko highlighted innovation, diversification, transformation and sustainability as key priorities in shaping Botswana’s future.

For MCM, its support for BIUST reflects its commitment to education, STEM excellence and developing the skills needed to contribute to Botswana’s future.
