MCM hosts Botswana Chamber of Mines(BCM) meetings
MCM hosted Botswana Chamber of Mines meetings from the 29th of November 2023 to the 1st of December 2023. The purpose of the Botswana Chamber of Mines is to serve the interests of the mining houses and to influence policy decisions and strategic intents within the government, non-governmental organizations and related bodies. These meeting are held biennial and rotate amongst the mining houses in Botswana.
The meetings started with Peer groups meeting where Safety, Health and Environmental issues among various Mining entities and other organisations that are subscribed to BCM. BCM members shared their SHE performance, learnings from incidents, different SHE strategies that they are embarking on to improve SHE performance in the mines and other entities.
Amongst other issues discussed is "𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮 𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙙". The speaker spoke on the opportunities and the impacts that can come with the integration. Furthermore, the BCM members had the opportunity to embark on familiarisation tours to our operations i.e. Underground and Opencast mine where MCM was greatly praised and applauded for the high safety standards observed at the operations. To close off the tour, the members stopped over at BIUST CEMM – Pyrolysis lab for a better understanding of the benefits of pyrolysis and how it can help minimise the environmental impact of hydraulic hose disposal.
To conclude this 3-day engagement, a high-level management meeting was held where Safety, Health and Environmental issues that were not resolved at the SHE peer group meetings and SHE sub committee meeting were presented forth for resolution by Management.
