Morupule Coal Mine showcases Botswana's Investment Potential at the 2025 Global Expo & Pula Investment Conference

Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) is proud to have taken center stage at the 2025 Global Expo & Pula Investment Conference, an event that underscored Botswana’s growing stature as a destination for investment, innovation, and sustainable development. The highlight of the event was an inspiring keynote address by His Excellency President Boko, who unveiled Botswana’s Investor Deal Book, a landmark portfolio comprising 66 investment-ready projects across key sectors including mining, agriculture, ICT, tourism, health, financial services, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

In his address, President Boko emphasized the critical role of the Expo and Conference in forging strategic partnerships, unlocking transformative investment opportunities, and propelling Botswana toward a resilient, diversified, and digitally enabled economy. “Together, we invest, build, and transform,” he affirmed, calling on stakeholders to seize this defining moment for the nation’s sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

Morupule Coal Mine’s participation at this year’s Global Expo reflects our ongoing transformation from a traditional coal mining operation into an integrated energy player, one that champions innovation, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment. We remain committed to powering Botswana’s sustainable energy future while contributing meaningfully to its broader development agenda.

Our vibrant exhibition stall at the Expo became a space of meaningful exchange where innovation met opportunity and dialogue inspired action. With a focus on sustainable beneficiation, strategic partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to ESG excellence, MCM is helping to redefine Botswana’s mining narrative, unlock value, drive diversification, and empower growth that endures.

In addition to our exhibition presence, Morupule Coal Mine joined high-level discussions at the Pula Investment Conference alongside policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to explore the future of mining in Botswana’s economic landscape. The session addressed opportunities in mineral beneficiation, critical minerals, ESG compliance, value addition, and strategic mining partnerships aligned with global sustainability goals.

The session was moderated by Ms. Botlhe Mokgethi, Strategy and Business Improvement Manager at MCM, and centered on how Botswana can transition from being a raw material exporter to becoming a regional hub for value-added and sustainable mineral development. Mr. Nelson Nareetsile, Head of Beneficiation at Morupule Coal Mine, presented a compelling vision for the role of coal in this transformation. He emphasized how clean coal technologies and advanced beneficiation are redefining coal’s role, not as an endpoint, but as a bridge to a low-carbon future. Mr. Nareetsile noted that Botswana has a limited but critical window to leverage its coal resources to develop downstream industries, create jobs, foster innovation, and build economic resilience.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Mokgethi stated, “The road ahead is full of promise, but not without challenges. Innovation, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to sustainability will be key to unlocking Botswana’s potential.”

As a proudly Botswana-owned and operated company, Morupule Coal Mine is deeply aligned with the nation’s development goals. Our vision is rooted in responsible mining, sustainable economic contribution, and community empowerment. Through collaborative partnerships and a future-focused approach, we are helping to shape Botswana’s mining narrative and redefine what it means to mine sustainably in the 21st century.
