MORUPULE COAL MINE LAUDED FOR TRANSFORMATIVE PALAPYE MULTI-PURPOSE STADIUM PROJECT
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Honourable Kgotla Kenneth Autlwetse has lauded Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) for their foresightedness in supporting government agenda and plans to develop sporting talent in their decision to build a P25 million (twenty-five million Pula) multipurpose stadium in Palapye. The Minister was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the stadium held today, 25 February 2022, in Palapye.
Honourable Autlwetse called on all the partners to optimize the construction and use of the facility. “This is a game changer we should all embrace, and guard jealously its commencement. I challenge you to aggressively mobilise the youth to take advantage of developing their sporting talent through this infrastructure”, said Autlwetse. The Minister further challenged the Palapye administrative Authority to turn the facility into an economic spinner as government urges local authorities to generate their own revenue.
When giving remarks, the General Manager of Morupule Coal Mine Mr. Edwin T. Elias thanked the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for approving the Mine’s request for land to be allocated for the construction of the stadium. The General Manager also said that the mine through this project was looking to empower youth and sports development in Botswana. “This investment and partnership between MCM and your Ministry is a legacy for posterity that reveal the achievement of our national endeavor to contribute to the growth and development of our country”, further said Elias.
Mr. Elias concluded that the mine aims to always support Botswana’s 2036 vision pillars of ‘Sustainable Economic Development’ and that of Human and Social Development.
MCM has appointed EH Construction, a 100% citizen owned company for the construction work which will be completed in third quarter.
