Maintaining our social license to operate
Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) values and continuously works at maintaining its relationship with members of our host communities. Landboard authorities in the District (Paje Sub-Landboard, Serowe Sub-Landboard, Ngwato Landboard and Palapye Sub Landboard) spent a day with MCM management to workshop several common interest issues. Amongst some of the key discussion points was the use of shared resources, amicably resolving disputes affecting both parties at local level, the application of the latest reviewed Tribal Land Act to mining activities in the area.
Officials from the respective Landboard offices were given a tour of MCM’s underground operation as a further familiarisation of our mining process. A common sentiment from attendants was a deep appreciation of how everything is meticulously set out underground and the world class safety measures in place.
This engagement is a demonstration of our Social Performance efforts to proactively manage social risks and impacts by engaging different local stakeholders. MCM values Stakeholder Focus to ensure all are aligned to our business interests, while we are aware of the local context.
