Advancing sustainability through knowledge | Soltrain+ Supplier Development Training at Morupule Coal Mine
Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the University of Botswana Clean Energy Research Centre hosted a dynamic two-day Soletrain+ Supplier Development Training, held on-site from 11 - 12 September 2025.
Facilitated through MCM’s Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme, the training aimed to build capacity among MCM Citizen Suppliers, Employees and Lecturers from TVET institutions within Solar Energy Systems, ultimately advancing priority area value chains within the Clean Energy Sector. Focusing on the importance of solar energy and its practical integration into industrial and community settings, topics covered included solar thermal technology, energy efficiency, and sustainable development principles relevant to Botswana’s energy transition goals.
This initiative forms part of the SOLTRAIN+ Programme, a regional project supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented locally through the Solar Industries Association of Botswana. The programme aims to support skills development, promote local innovation, and drive the adoption of clean energy solutions across Southern Africa.
Participants successfully completed a written assessment and were awarded certificates of participation, affirming their commitment to contributing towards a greener, more sustainable future.
As MCM continues to invest in partnerships that promote environmental stewardship and local economic development, we are proud alongside our partners such as the UNDP Sustainable Private Sector Development Programme, to be part of this transformative journey, empowering our people and suppliers with the tools and knowledge to lead change.
