Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) operates an open pit mining environment that relies heavily on Heavy Mobile Machinery (HMM) and Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM. These operations involve constant interaction between large mining equipment, light vehicles, and personnel, creating a high-risk environment for vehicle-related incidents. In line with its commitment to zero harm, regulatory compliance, and industry best practice, Morupule Coal Mine seeks to strengthen critical controls that address high-energy vehicle interactions. Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-person collisions remain among the most serious safety risks in surface mining and require robust engineering and technology-based interventions. This scope defines the requirements for the implementation of a Vehicle Collision Avoidance / Collision Warning and Avoidance System (CAS/CxD) across selected HMM operating within MCM’s open pit operations. The system will provide early hazard detection, effective operator warnings, and, where required by risk assessment, controlled intervention to prevent or mitigate collisions. The initiative forms part of MCM’s broader safety and risk management strategy aimed at enhancing operational safety, improving visibility of leading safety indicators, and reinforcing a proactive safety culture across the mine.
